NAIDOC Week 2025

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025 Across the Central Tablelands

NAIDOC Week 2025, held from 6–13 July, is a national celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, calls on all Australians to honour the leadership of First Nations communities and recognise the essential role they play in shaping the future of our land and communities.

Landcare in the Central Tablelands is proud to stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, acknowledging the deep, enduring knowledge they bring to caring for Country. Through collaboration and shared stewardship, Landcare continues to learn from First Nations expertise in sustainability, land management, and community resilience.

Across the Central Tablelands, NAIDOC Week was marked by a wide range of activities and events that brought communities together in celebration.

Mid-Western Regional Council (Mudgee) are hosting a vibrant week of community events. The program included hands-on workshops, a film screening, and an official flag-raising ceremony—each event providing an opportunity for residents and visitors to connect with culture, history, and one another. More details available here.

In Bathurst, a collaborative art exhibition at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre (BMEC) is showcasing local creative talent, with works inspired by the 2025 NAIDOC Week theme. Running from 8–15 July, the exhibition offered a powerful visual interpretation of strength, vision, and legacy through the lens of community and culture.

In Cowra, the Cowra Information and Neighbourhood Centre (CINC) led early celebrations with a march and a family fun day at PCYC Cowra. The event brought together people of all ages and backgrounds, with cultural activities, community stalls, and performances. The success of the day was made possible through the collaboration of local service providers, volunteers, and community members.

Meanwhile, Orange will hold its NAIDOC Week celebrations later in the year due to the colder winter conditions. The Orange Local Aboriginal Lands Council (OLALC) will host a special event celebrating community, connection, and culture.

As NAIDOC Week 2025 concludes, Landcare across the region remains committed to building strong, respectful partnerships with First Nations communities. By learning from and working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Landcare aims to contribute to a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable future.
