NSW Tree Conference 2024

In March 2024, the Central Tablelands Regional Landcare Network proudly partnered with Greening Bathurst and the Central Tablelands Local Land Services to host the inaugural New South Wales Tree Conference. This ground breaking event marked a significant step forward in our collective mission to integrate forestry into agricultural systems, thereby enhancing natural capital.

Themed "Natural Capital: Trees as an Alternative Crop," the conference underscored the indispensable role of agroforestry in the evolution of sustainable farming practices. We brought together farmers, landholders, and key players in the forestry industry to explore the multifaceted benefits of cultivating trees—not only for their timber but also for their capacity to sequester carbon and bolster the ecological and economic resilience of agricultural enterprises.

The program included keynote presentations, engaging panel discussions, and interactive workshop sessions. One of the highlights of the conference was the evening panel discussion on the first day, which delved into the major concepts and ideas that emerged throughout the event.

The conference experience was further enriched on Thursday, 21 March, with a half-day farm visit. This excursion offered participants a tangible look at the application of agroforestry principles in practice. Attendees had the unique opportunity to engage with producers who have successfully integrated these systems into their properties, showcasing the tangible benefits of agroforestry.

The 2024 New South Wales Tree Conference served as a crucial gathering point for those at the forefront of shaping the future of agroforestry in Australia. It provided an exceptional opportunity for industry professionals to engage with experts, enhance their knowledge, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on sustainable farming practices.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in and contributed to the success of this pioneering event. Through collaborations like these, we continue to advance towards a sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
