Introduction to Biodynamics with Hamish Mackay

Regenerate soil, climate and human health — starting with the soil.

Join Watershed Landcare for a two-day introductory biodynamics workshop with renowned educator Hamish Mackay (Biodynamics 2024). This practical and engaging course explores proven methods for building fertile, resilient soils and producing nutrient-dense food without synthetic chemicals.

Suitable for gardeners, farmers and Landcarers at any scale, the workshop demonstrates how biodynamic practices can improve soil structure, increase water-holding capacity, strengthen plant vitality and support carbon capture — helping create productive and climate-resilient landscapes.

Across two immersive days, participants will explore:

  • The principles and ethics of biodynamics and its origins

  • Soil fertility and the soil food web

  • Biodynamic preparations (BD500–BD508) and how they work

  • Practical approaches to composting, sprays and teas

  • Reading lunar and planetary rhythms for timing and risk management

  • Weed ecology, animal health considerations and on-farm planning

  • Stirring, vortex creation and effective application techniques

With over 40 years of experience, Hamish Mackay is a highly respected educator known for making biodynamics practical, accessible and effective.

The workshop will be held at LOWE Wines, a stunning biodynamic winery, market garden and farm near Mudgee.
