Join us for an evening with Dr Rebecca Swanson, Senior Scientist in Estuaries and Catchments Science from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. Rebecca Swanson is an Aquatic Scientist with a lifelong passion for understanding the connections between land and water. She holds a BSc (1st Class Honours) in Marine Biology, majoring in Zoology and Biochemistry (1991–1995), and completed a PhD at UNSW (2000–2006) investigating how chemical cues from seaweeds in rocky intertidal habitats trigger metamorphosis in sea urchin larvae.
Since 2012, Rebecca has worked as an Environmental Scientist in the Estuaries and Catchments Team within the Science and Insights Division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). Her research focuses on how urban, industrial, and agricultural land uses impact estuary health, and she works closely with local councils to improve water quality and the ecological condition of waterways.
